Bambusee build on the skills and traditions of local craftspeople to manufacture fashionable, sustainable products. We aim to support the small businesses that work with us to create jobs and ensure that local communities benefit. All craftspeople have fair working conditions and can provide for their families. There is neither discrimination nor child labour. Our partners employ people living with HIV/ AIDS, rehabilitated drug users and other vulnerable groups.
A natural product that gives back
We use natural and environmentally friendly products wherever possible. The teak and rosewood used in our sunglasses frames are reclaimed from demolished buildings. Recycling these beautiful woods gives them a new lease of life and helps to prevent further logging of the rainforest. All stone is hand quarried and unique. The bamboo used in our packaging can grow up to a metre per day, and is sustainably sourced from the bamboo farms of East Java. The soft case is dyed using natural indigo colouring, and finished with a hemp drawstring.
A purchase to be proud of
To date Bambusee has supported over 500 cataract operations and over 1000 eye tests in poor communities. By purchasing Bambusee sunglasses you directly contribute to local charities in Indonesia. Through partnerships with the Indonesian Eye Doctors’ Association and the NGO Besi Pae, we are able to help support the millions of Indonesians who suffer from eye problems. An estimated 210,000 Indonesians are diagnosed with cataracts every year. We facilitate the provision of cataract and other eye operations for sufferers, the training of eye doctors and the distribution of glasses and sunglasses for those across Indonesia who cannot afford them themselves.
Now you can purchase with a clear conscience and be a part of our sustainable vision: providing ethical work and ethical products.
